About Cosi Bar Ristorante

Cosi Bar Ristorante has been one of Melbourne Italian institutions since 1996.

Owners Omar El Deek and brothers Giacomo Pietrantuono and Donatello Pietrantuono, also behind Cucinetta in South Yarra, saw this as their biggest and most exciting venture yet, showcasing their ability to rebrand and rebuild one of South Yarra’s most loved restaurants.

The trio arrived in Melbourne over a decade ago where Omar and Giacomo met while working at Caffe e Cucina and quickly became key figures in the restaurant for close to five years, playing an integral role in the venue’s rebrand.

“Cosi Ristorante has been an institution for 28 years, we’re excited to re-open the doors and welcome back the South Yarra community and neighbouring suburbs to enjoy it once more,' said Omar El Deek owner of Cosi Ristorante and Cucinetta Melbourne.

Cosi is classic, homely, comfortable and has maintained aspects of its original version. Each table inside is covered in white tablecloths, like the restaurants in Italy and wait staff will be dressed in clean, crisp white shirts again tapping into tradition.

The rich colour palette featuring browns and a mix of dark green hues, black, white and gold and the iconic red that represents the brand, accompanied with the use of iron, leather and wood gives the revamped space a sophisticated and cosy atmosphere.

The space is perfect for all occasions, a casual drink, an Aperol in the outdoor courtyard or settling into the custom booths for an intimate meal.

When diners aren’t enjoying some live music in the sun, they can expect an authentic offering of old meets new on Cosi’s menu. Drawing inspiration from its sister eatery Cucinetta, the menu focuses on showcasing the best of Italian dining while also creating an honest and comfortable environment where the food does the talking.

In keeping to Italian tradition, the menu is segmented into starters, pasta and risotto, mains and dolci - while the menu encourages sharing, it isn’t essential. A selection of standout dishes including the Beef Carpaccio, Calamari, Linguine alla Marinara, Tortiglioni al Ragu and Tiramisù.

The cocktail list features all the great Italian classics, think Aperol Spritz, Campari and Negroni.

Wine lovers won’t be disappointed either with a curated wine list designed by owner and sommelier Giacomo focusing on Italian and Australian varietals.
